Kurtis Hessel writes fiction that cross-pollinates genres, drawing upon horror, science fiction, weird fiction, hard-boiled noir, adventure stories, and nature writing. His scholarly work and teaching focus on British Romantic literature, the history and rhetoric of science, and nature and environmental writing. He earned his PhD in English from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2017 and is a Teaching Associate Professor in the Program for Writing and Rhetoric at CU.

His scholarly work has appeared in major journals including Studies in Romanticism, European Romantic Review, and Configurations, as well as edited volumes from Liverpool University Press and Cambridge University Press.
